Advanced Audio Technology for Bliss, Clifton, New Jersey
Owner Tommy Dorfman wanted Bliss to vie for top DJ bookings with the big boys in Manhattan. So he brought in Joe Lodi of Advanced Audio Technology, who along with partner Angelo Poulos designed and installed a Turbosound Aspect system for the 6,000-square-foot club. "We used many proprietary components to warm up the overall sound, such as vacuum tube pre-amplification," Lodi says. "The system has incredible headroom and at virtually any level holds together without any distortion." The system integrates Turbosound TA-500 speakers and TSW-215 subs with EAW tweeters; plus MC2 amplification and XTA signal processing. Since opening in December, jocks like Dubfire, Jonathan Peters, and Tommy Lee & DJ Aero have tested it out. -CM

Core Audio for Play @ Hom, Charlotte N.C.
There's plenty to recommend the new Charlotte, N.C. destination Hom, from the Miami-style lounge Live to the organic food restaurant Feast. But the newly transported Turbosound rig from local venue Tonic is what keeps the party people at upstairs club Play up past their bedtime. Two custom monitors and a power distribution box designed by James Jackson offer ease-of-use, flexibility and visually elegant (gotta love that walnut paneling!) yet powerful sound. And their Dolby Lake processing and Powersoft amplification provides all the energy models like the TFL-760H and TSW-718s can handle…and that's plenty. -JH
Infinite Audio for Tottem Nightclub at Karu-Y, Miami
Located in rapidly expanding downtown Miami, Tottem represents the higher end of club opulence with two sound systems to match its lavish garden design. Lord Toussaint of Infinite Audio (Pacha, Rain) - Dynacord's unofficial brand ambassador stateside - designed the interior's Dynacord alpha concept system, which is one of the largest in the U.S. "It's just a big fat nasty alpha," he says. The club's palatial exterior - "like a theme park," says Toussaint - boasts a fully weather-protected speaker system. The EAW SP250 enclosures are sprayed with a fiberglass roving, saving their structure and sonic quality from that cruel Miami wet heat. -PM

JK Sound for 1015 Cirque Lounge, San Francisco
Making the very most with very little, previous "Best Sound" winner Michael Lacina of JK Sound took what was once a neglected basement space in the old 1015 club, and with a little ingenuity gave its brand-new Cirque Lounge a roar mighty enough to compete with clubs twice its size. Stacked in its four corners are line array speakers from EAW's KF760 Series capable of pumping 140 decibels, while ten dual-18-inch subs keep alive the heavy bass legacy that made this room locally famous. Combine that with discreet yet strategic speaker placement, and what's not to love about the result? -JH

Sound Investment for Set, Miami
Building on the success of Mansion's 2005 Club World Award-winning sound system, the Sound Investment team used a similar plan of attack for Opium Group's 10,000-square-foot Set. To accommodate the aesthetic conditions of Set's meticulous design, they used a slew of high-power, low-clutter Funktion-One Resolution 2 speakers with several F-121 and F-218 subs. And to meet the challenge of acoustically unfriendly surfaces, they delayed the speakers with numerous BSS processing channels. MC2 amplifiers power those speakers, as well as the Martin Audio Blackline and JBL boxes on the upper level. -CM
