After sifting through 300 nominees in 24 categories for two arduous weeks, we’ve finally come to the moment
clubland has been waiting for: the announcement of the nominees for the 2009 Club World Awards.
Because of the overwhelming response we received this year, the competition is particularly fierce, which
means the cliché uttered by movie stars annually at the Academy Awards, “It’s an honor just to be nominated,”
is actually true for those of you up for the coveted disco globes. Or so we like to think.
These Awards are dedicated to you, the industry professional who broke new technological
ground; who planned for months in advance to ensure that the party was perfect; who played an inspired
set that people still talk about; and who, generally, despite increasingly tough economic circumstances,
made ’08 a year for the clubbing record books. Manufacturers, entrepreneurs, promoters, jocks, and assorted
other visionaries: we celebrate your achievements.
Here, you’ll find profiles of companies and individuals in categories that include: Best Superclub, Best
Lighting Product, and Best DJ Set, one of several new categories we introduced last year that we decided
to keep. The winners are determined by a 12-person, industry-expert judges panel that includes
departing editor Kerri Mason (and 11 other folks whose identities are kept secret until after the envelopes
are sealed).
